Space-time trajectories approaches are established on the observation that the tracking of joint positions is sufficient for humans to recognize actions [26]. Trajectories are usually formed by tracking joint points or other interest points of the human body. Various trajectories representations and corresponding matching algorithms used the for action recognition. Space-time Trajectories based approaches interpret the human activity as a set of space-time trajectories. A person is generally represented as a set of 2-dimensional (XY), 3-dimensional (XYZ), or 4-dimensional (XYZT) points corresponding to his or her joint positions along the space and time. Human body parts estimation methodologies, especially the stick figure modeling, are widely used to extract the joint positions of a person at each image frame. Changes in joint position of a human performing an action are recorded as space-time trajectories, constructing 3-D XYT or 4-D XYZT representations of the human activity. Figure 2.6 shows example trajectories. Figure 2.6-a shows 3-D XYZ trajectories, while figure 2.6-b shows 3-D XYT trajectories. I simply cannot believe that these books existed solong without my knowledge of how grand they are. Iconsider myself to read constantly, more than almost anyoneI know, literature and simple, and here in less than a month Iread two books that are undoubtedly among the best I haveencountered. How many other good books exist that I haveyet to read? Am I really a reader? Will I ever finish them all?What will I do if I tire of reading? When I finished FTA Iwas of course stunned by the death of Catherine and thebaby and Henrys sudden solitude. What happens now? Ifelt, as I so often do when I finish a book that I want to goon forever. This is infinitely more difficult with a book thathas no conclusion, and FTA leaves a reader not onlyemotionally exhausted but also just as alone as Henry andwith nowhere to go. The entire work was aware of where itwas going and what was going to happen next, and then tostop the way it did was unfair. Now, Ive read enoughessays while deciding which would be the topic for my classpresentation that I know many people see that the unfairnessof life and the insignificance of our free will are apparentlythe most important themes in the book, but I dont agree. Ialso dont agree that it is a war story or a love story. Exactlywhat it is, though, is not clear to me. Cant art exist withoutbeing anything? There isnt always an explanation foreverything. War and love are obviously important themes inthe book, and the relationship between the two is exploredby Hemingway and, somewhat, by Henry. In the first twoBooks we are in the war and the war is overwhelming. Inthe last two Books we are in love. And, just as the first twoBooks are peppered with love in the time of war, the lasttwo Books are tinged with war in the time of love. The thirdBook is the bridge between the two stories and it is notsurprising that it centers on the escape. It is during theescape that Henry resolves that he is through with the war (awar in which he really has no place) and decides that all hewants is to be with Catherine. Until the third Book Henrydoesnt seem to be agonizingly concerned with matters ofright or wrong in the war and it seems, in fact, separate fromhim. Even when he is injured it doesnt appear that he isreally a part of the war which surrounds him. He maintains adistance from it and this distance isnt really closed untilAymo is killed by his own army, he discovers that Bonello isonly staying with him out of respect, and he is almost killedas a spy. After this he resolves to desert the army and bereunited with his love, Catherine. Henry is no dummy and hecould easily tell that everything was not all correct with Cat,which leads to the question of his love for her. You mustadmit that Cat is a bit well flaky when they first meet. Sheloses that persona soon enough, although I couldnt help butdistrust her integrity until somewhere in the middle of thefourth Book. It is also difficult to believe wholeheartedly inhis love for her until much later in their relationship, and itleaves me wondering if he is leaving his involvement in thewar because of his unfailing love for Cat or if Cat and anyfeelings he has for her are just excuses to escape the insanityof the war he experiences in the third Book. When he is withCatherine, they are in another place, untouched by the war,both symbolically (in the tent of her hair) and literally (inSwitzerland). The author of Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller, believes that it is possible, and he is sure that a common man may be represented as a tragic hero, and he succeeds to prove his belief with the help of his play. This is a tragedy of a common man in the modern world, a story about a man from Brooklyn. This play was awarded by prizes in literature; it combines several literature styles, as surrealism and realism. This is a story of a man that is swallowed up by the word of hypocrisy and fraud. (qtd in Murphy) This hero doesn’t reveal much intellect or any other outstanding features of character, while Aristotle mentioned the intellect as the feature of tragic hero in classic tragedy, but the sense of self-awareness developed in him – this is the reason why he committed a suicide after he had seen that his life had been senseless. Understanding the motives that forced Willy commit a suicide is significant. The title of the writing informs us about the end of it just before we start reading. Probably, the reasons that forced the hero kill himself are the most common reasons in this case: attempt to escape from cruel reality, desire to revenge and punish his sons for their misunderstanding and disrespect, illusion of getting power in acting while the problems seem irresolvable, bravery to rule his living, even the aspiration for the success and victory, making something that is done perfect, and at last, providing his sons with the insurance, and thus proving that he had gone the wrong path. This last moment can be compared to the tragedy of King Lear and the death of Cordelia. Thus, the hero feels that he destroyed his life and the lives of his sons, and his final attempt to repair it is giving them the money that will be available for them after his death on his insurance (Sandage 30). The other element defined by Aristotle as the second key element in classic tragedy is hubris. To understand the issue it is necessary to observe the character of Willy Loman. He is skillful in hand work, but he doesn’t consider it to be his advantage, and he doesn’t appreciate this talent, he states that â€Å"a man who cant handle tools is disgusting†(Miller 47), so he chooses a career of a salesman, as it is coincides with his perception of what is needed to get prosperity. This notion derives from his image of his father who abandoned him in his childhood, and from his image of an old salesman who died all alone on his way to Boston in a train car. Another essential element of a tragedy, in addition to the connection between the downfall of character’s personality and the features of his character, is recognition of the self. This point is represented with the help of Willy and Biff, who gets aware of his personal self at the end of the play, while Biff understands that his father had unreal dreams, and he becomes able to decide what will be better for him in future, and this decision derives from a realistic notion of his abilities (Sandage 14). Willy desires to impress the people around him, and to be remembered by the people after his death, he also want to provide his sons with the money, and he suffers because he realizes that he is unable to do this. He realizes that he wasted his living and all the opportunities he met in his life. He is now old, and he has nothing to hope for, and he achieved nothing as well, he is not respected by his sons and he hasn’t got friends to support him. He thinks that he realizes the reason why human life is absurd. Linda states that A small man can be just as exhausted as a great man, (Miller, p.39) and the character of Willy Loman demonstrates that modern tragedy doesn’t describe the downfall of a great man, a person of high moral standards, the person who has a power or rules the country. Tragedy now describes the downfall of a common man, and this particular play is a wide perspective of contemporary USA, with its lacks and hidden flows, critically reflected in a story of an ordinary man, one of the millions of people (Linderholm 25). In modern literature, in contrast with the classical tragedy, the definition of a tragedy, as it should be is different. Although some features defined by Aristotle as the features of tragedy, can be found in modern plays, there are definite points of distinction. As far as Death of a Salesman is concerned, it is possible to point out hamartia and hubris as the elements that are inherent to the play. The basic distinction lies in the author’s reject from portraying a great and powerful person that plays significant social role. The author portrays an ordinary man in his habitual surroundings. The other distinction is that the symbol of fate is different in classic and modern tragedies. In classic Greek theatre these were the gods that shaped the destiny of the individual, in modern tragedies this role is given to social institutions and organizations that make the person feel like a speck of dust in the myriads of the same specks. Thus, it will be wrong to judge Death of a Salesman as a classic tragedy, as there are some essential issues that make it differ from the tragedy defined by Aristotle. The medical use of the cannabis plant goes back at least 5,000 years to ancient China. It has been used by most of the world’s cultures for its healing properties (Medical Marijuana Cases 1). Today such conditions as Migraine headaches, Glaucoma, Cancer, Epilepsy, Asthma AIDS/HIV, Spinal injury, Muscle spasms, Insomnia etc., could be treated for symptomatic relief with cannabis or cannabis extract. However, marijuana is still considered an illegal drug in most states in the United States. Marijuana usage may have been common 20-30 years ago, but it really isn’t any longer. Judy Foreman states that a hardy band of activists seeking legislative approval of perennial bill that would bring Massachusetts in line with 34 other states in letting patients with certain conditions smoke marijuana (1). 2 What was known, as the â€Å"wicked weed† of the sixties can be good medicine . Marijuana certainly seems safer than may other drugs, even aspirin that causes gastrointestinal bleeding, killing hundreds of people every year (Grinspoon/Bakalar 4).3 There are lots of drugs American society does not let people use except under doctor’s care, for instance, cocaine, Demerol, est. No one thinks we have legalized cocaine because we let surgeon or anesthesiologists use it. Therefore, the notion that there is a link between medical use and whether people should to be able to legally get stoned is nonsense. One situation does not necessarily include the other. Nevertheless, there has not been a single death by overdose (Foreman 4).2 As an enlightened society, we must reconsider the legalization of marijuana for medical use only as it eases pain and suffering of many illnesses.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   To effect changing the attitudes within our society about marijuana, one must be realistic about the legislation of our own bodies. Right now cocaine and morphine are prescribed legally as medicines, and those legal uses are not adding in any significant way to the country drug problem. While experts debate the medical use of marijuana, patients in Santa Cruz, San Francisco and Alameda County are lining up at Cannabis Buyers’ Club to receive the drug. Hawk, a debut novel by William Wallis (a poet) was published by `The Publisher` last 2006 with a 158 pages. Its genre is Fiction or Autobiographical. Hawk is the first novel written by the author that has won the 2006 Benjamin Franklin Award in Fiction that is given annually by Publisher’s Marketing Association (an organization composed of around 4,000 independent publishers. It appeared last August 14, 2006 issue of â€Å"Publishers Weekly†, in the Benjamin Franklin Award segment of PMA`s advertisement. He has a plan to publish three more stories that has a relation with his first novel. BODY The novel narrates about a story of family and survival while combining Southern traditional literary and contemporary expression. Maintaining the image of a poet and at the same time as a novelist, Wallis was able to recount a perception of life on earth by a seven-year-olds’ eye–Will Falke, the leading character of his novel. Perplexing introductory events made the story more appealing to the readers. Chronicles of conventional childhood experiences of Will Falke is one of the focuses of the novel. His pains and disappointments on the stage of his growth through which is spent mostly in Monticello, Arkansas, during the early 1950`s molded him to become a Adika, pg 2 tough person. Having suffered and survived tough problems has not necessarily pushed Will to prefer to be in a place other than his hometown. The state where the central character lives is enclosed by a half-dozen other neighboring southern states, in which we can relate on how the characters in this story are interlinked. William Wallis, as a Southern writer keenly described one of the major preoccupancy of Southern America which is survival, both enduring and prevailing. Will Falke, born in the year of the fifties have experienced the both negative and positive side of his existence in this world. He lost his eye; he has endured the vicious pain of punishments from his cruel and brutal father; he has to stay sturdy in spite of the mocking and humiliations of his schoolmates, and a mother who is so weak to continuously strive to live in order to protect him and his family. These are the examples of him being cursed. On the contrary, there are also things aside from troubles that can still be a reason for Will to hold on and can be considered as a blessing. Significant characters like Alma, a nurse with a good heart that taught him to read; Ruth, Will’s frail mother where he got his passion for classical music and singing and he also learned the lyrics of classical music from a Jew pal; Tyree, his gentle neighbor that skilled him to play chess and gave him the gift of friendship; and even simple things like a family farm that taught him to learn the ways of nature just like how his indignant father trained him to be resilient; he is cared and very much loved by women, and lastly, he has eventually learned liberty and freedom like a â€Å"Hawk. † Adika, pg 3 On my point of view, this novel is so heartily written by the author that has the capacity to move the hearts of the reader through the varying well-hanging events and experiences as well as emotions that we could easily relate with. Every experience of Will, every struggle regarding his parents, sisters, and the other people that were dear to him has rendered complex scenario of bravery and the true value of a family. He has not only portrayed the classic or typical outlook of love of a family member but exhibited with honesty and mixture of artistry the true meaning of selfless and ‘Christ-like’ love—full of bravery and hope.
